Big Thinker

Why You Should Think Big

In the world we live in today, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind of life. However, being able to think big is critical if you want to be successful. Whether we are talking about business or personal, thinking big will help make everything more exciting and engaging – not only for yourself but also for others around you. If you are thinking small, then it’s likely that your goals will be just as small. As a result, your growth will suffer, and so will your happiness.

Have you ever considered that you could be and do much more than you currently are?

Thinking big is your ticket to a new life!

Consider these ideas on why you should think big:

  1. Avoid contentment: Have you ever noticed that we’ll work like crazy to restore the average balance of our life when it takes a dip below what is considered acceptable?

For example, if you lose your job, you’ll work like crazy to replace your lost salary. Yet, if we are making more money than necessary, we won’t work as hard to double our income under any circumstance.

        ◦ Avoiding contentment isn’t the same as continually being dissatisfied. That wouldn’t be an enjoyable way to live. However, if you want to achieve something more, you must strive to be more.

    2. Big goals are exciting: Going on a picnic at the state park for the 10th time is fine, but chances are you won’t be excited about doing it again. Your first trip to Paris is another story. Few things feel better than excitement and anticipation. Big goals can provide you with both.

        ◦ If your goals aren’t exciting you, try aiming a bit higher.

    3. Big goals require big growth: Dropping 10 pounds or earning an extra $1000 this year requires little change and development on your part. Losing 70 pounds or quadrupling your salary will force you to make some significant changes.

        ◦ If you want to become all you can be, you don’t have to join the military. You can just set and achieve big goals.

    4. Thinking big reduces the number of distractions in your life: If you have something big that you’re trying to accomplish, you don’t have time to worry about the little stuff. You become more focused and mentally relaxed. You’re focused enough to take action.

        ◦ Having a significant objective in your life makes life more straightforward, and in many ways, more comfortable.

    5. Thinking big expands your world: Your thinking big forces you to identify your strengths and weaknesses. It forces you to do things you’re not comfortable doing. Your world expands when you become satisfied with things that used to make you feel uncomfortable.

    6. Big thinking can expand your belief of what is possible: You can challenge your limits. You need to view the world in a new way to accomplish big objectives. Identify the steps that will take you closer to your goals. You will be surprised at how many new doors of opportunity open up for you once they appear.

        ◦ Imagine the mindset change that was required to develop the first airplane or to run a sub-4-minute mile.

        ◦ Your goals might not be as grand, but your mindset will have to evolve in some way.

    7. You’ll view common challenges in life as much smaller: When you’re trying to make your first million dollars, a leaky faucet seems like small potatoes. When your plan for the evening is to watch Living Single reruns, a leaky faucet can make you think, “I just can’t catch a break. This faucet would be loud now!”

Thinking big does a lot for your enthusiasm and your confidence. It can also do wonders for your dating life. Imagine telling a date that you’re working on a plan to dig water wells in Africa. That’s a little more intriguing than talking about how you kicked your best-friends ass in Madden last night.

“If you’re not thinking big, you won’t achieve big. And if you don’t achieve something big in this lifetime, then it’s never going to happen.” –Kris Gethin

Thinking big is claiming your right to have an exciting and meaningful life. You can do whatever you set your mind to do. You just need to develop a big goal and persevere. Raise your thinking, and your experiences in life will follow.
